Getting there and getting around

Use the airport ground-transport center as your starting point

Shenzhen’s official airport guide places access to Metro Line 11 in the Ground Transportation Center, with lifts and escalators connecting the passenger route. The same guide separates airport express buses, intercity railway access and other onward transport. Choose the route for your actual destination district before leaving the terminal. A clinic in Futian, Nanshan or a more distant district can require a different final connection. Ask for the hospital campus address and nearest accessible entrance, then compare that journey with your hotel location. Keep a practical alternative if luggage, fatigue or reduced mobility makes several transfers unsuitable.

Airport station names are not interchangeable

The municipal metro guide lists Airport (T3) and Airport North on Line 11, while Airport East appears on other lines. This distinction matters when searching for a meeting point: do not select a station just because its English name contains “Airport”. Use the terminal-specific station and check the direction of travel before boarding. The guide also identifies Line 11 connections through Nanshan and Futian. For a hospital visit, plan the last stretch from the station to the correct building. Station proximity alone does not tell you whether the route has stairs, a long indoor walk or a suitable vehicle drop-off.

How care is organized here

Ordinary public care and international care are separate choices

Shenzhen’s Health Commission describes the Guangdong international-medical-service pilot as separate from ordinary basic medical care. Its published framework addresses self-paying patients and international commercial insurance, with international services managed separately and prices set under the pilot’s rules. Do not use an ordinary public consultation tariff to budget for that department. Our Shenzhen price entry identifies the public fee category it actually covers. Ask the hospital to name the service tier on your estimate, and confirm the consultation, tests and any coordination charges individually. Participation in a pilot is not a guarantee of a particular appointment or treatment outcome.

Scope: 2026–2027 pilot framework; not proof that every department offers every described service.

Match the department and payment arrangement

The provincial pilot report explains that international-service charges fall outside basic medical-insurance reimbursement. That makes the choice of department a billing decision as well as an appointment decision. Tell the hospital whether you intend to self-pay or seek commercial-insurance settlement, then have the insurer confirm the named facility and planned services. Do not assume that a hospital-wide cooperation announcement applies to every policy. Also ask who will handle communication during the consultation, tests and discussion of results. The local policy describes an organizational framework; your written confirmation must establish the arrangements for your own visit and travel dates.

Scope: 2026–2027 pilot framework; not proof that every department offers every described service.

Health screening

Book a screening appointment under the right identity Check regulatory record

HKU-Shenzhen Hospital’s screening instructions list its own online, telephone and on-site appointment channels, and tell foreign visitors to bring a passport. They also warn that an on-site request may not secure a same-day examination. This is a local example of a screening center with its own booking process, rather than a reason to assume a general outpatient booking is sufficient. Before traveling, ask how to register your passport details, which screening service you have selected and what preparation applies. Request instructions for your own circumstances, including medicines and any mobility assistance, directly from the clinical team.

Scope: Hospital’s own screening instructions, dated 10 March 2025; confirm current passport and booking arrangements.

A package can require more than one appointment Check regulatory record

The hospital’s published screening instructions distinguish package components from tests requiring additional arrangements. The notes explain that certain examinations must be scheduled at the hospital and may not be completed on the checkup day. Use that distinction when planning your stay: ask which components have confirmed slots, when reports will be ready and how results will be discussed after you leave. Obtain the current item list and quote together. A package sheet is a description of a service offered by that institution, not advice to have every listed test or a promise that every component will fit a short visit.

Scope: Hospital-published screening instructions dated 10 March 2025; contents are not a current quote or clinical recommendation.
